About

Ian Littleton, founder of PFA in South Africa, believes that there are so many talented footballers out there, that for whatever reasons don’t get scouted. His driving force is to give those players the same opportunities as those in pro club academies. And so PFA was born.

At PFA all players and parents are asked to show the same commitment and discipline that you would attending a professional academy, and in return you will receive the same standard of coaching and follow the same syllabus as all the pro clubs. More importantly, PFA will focus on your child as an individual and their development needs. We’ll give them a safe, secure environment to take risks, be creative and feel confident to learn at their own pace over the long term. Every player will have an individual learning plan and a 12 week review with the Academy Director.

Every player and parent will be made to feel part of the PFA family, where not only do we create players with character and intelligence, but lifelong memories and friendships too. PFA exists to give something extra to all those players in grassroots leagues, as well as providing ‘top up’ coaching to those already in pro club academies or on trial. What unites us all is our passion for the beautiful game.

“The more you work, the more you learn, and the more you learn, the more awesome you can become.” “The secret of hard work, competing and character is asking yourself, what can you learn tomorrow, and what are you willing to do for it” Lee Waddington, Academy Director, PFA

The four cornerstones of learning at PFA are

TECHNICAL

Ball mastery, travelling with the ball, receiving, passing, finishing, shooting

PHYSICAL

Running mechanics, speed, dynamic movement, stamina, agility, balance, co-ordination

TACTICAL

Understanding formations, specific tactics, recognising key moments, reacting to triggers

PSYCHOLOGICAL

Team dynamics, leadership, social skills, performance under pressure

Our Principles

PFA believe in producing players with outstanding character and intelligent game management skills. This will give them every opportunity to play at their very best. To achieve this we operate a child centric approach that delivers expert coaching and guidance on an individual basis. This enables every player to learn and develop at their own pace over the long term. Our Pre Academy and Foundation phase players (age 4-10) have the freedom to be creative, make their own decisions and solve problems in exciting game based sessions. We take a more balanced approach to our Youth Development phase players (age 11-17). Principles of play are taught, but still alongside a healthy degree of freedom to play creatively, so we develop players who are effective decision makers. EVERY player receives: PFA specific assessment Individual player learning plan 12 week review with Academy Director Individual learning goals CAF qualified coaching Pre-planned seasonal coaching programme. Opportunity to join PFA Allstars team Chance to partake in Masterclass coaching sessions with the very best coaches
